Schedule for Week of 10
December:
Bring your copy of A Streetcar Named Desire to class everyday, unless told otherwise. Do not ask for permission to go to your locker to retrieve it-if you arrive to class unprepared-you will receive a "zero". Parents: Perhaps your child is one of the several students from each class who always arrive unprepared and then must go to their locker to obtain their text-imagine a "Junior" neglecting to bring the required text to class? I will remember this when I am requested to write theircollege
letter of recommendation...

DEAR PARENTS: I would like to inform you that your child may not have submitted an assignment that was due today, Monday, 3 December-an assignment for which the due date was posted last week. (See posting below) This assignment required the students to complete a Reading Journal for Chapters 7-9- following specific guidelines-also available on this blog. Several students simply completed a "summary", without responding to the other requirements. I urge you to sign-on to Jupiter to determine whether your child completed this assignment. The students are aware of my homework policy-I will NOT accept late homework assignments! (See the student contract for my policy.)

Dear Parents: Please inform your child that copying from an on-line resource that provides a summary and an analysis of a novel is PLAGIARISM! Sadly, several students from Both Bands (C and F) are GUILTY of this infraction. The assignment is straightforward and far from complex-so referring to on-line notes for literary selections is not necessary. (I am ALWAYS available in Room 404 during our 37.5 minutes of tutoring.) In addition, several students are omitting the requirements identified on the assignment handout.
Just a Reminder: SAT Vocabulary Quiz: List 8 (SEVEN words List 8/THREE words List 7)
Reading Journals: Chapters 4-6-DUE Monday, 3 December (I will place a "greater" emphasis on the evaluation of this journal.) If you are absent, it must be emailed to me as a MS Word attachment-then, upon your return-hand me a "hard-copy" of the assignment.
Monday, 3 December: QUIZ on Chapters 7 and 8 and 9 (approximately 15 questions over ALL three chapters-short answers). The following powerpoints may assist you in preparing for this quiz and our subsequent discussion on Monbday and Tuesday:

We will view these power-points in class-we can not wait for everyone to take notes-so it may be to your advantage to print these resources. I may even genearate a question or two from these resources for the QUIZ on Monday, 3 December.

Dear Parents: On Thursday, your child will receive a report cart at the end of B-Band. Please be advised that the "letter-grade" indicated will not reflect an accurate "grade" since grades were not "rounded-up" to the nearest whole-grade. However, if you visit the school's on line-grading report (jupitergrades.com) you will discover your child's "actual" numerical grade for the first-marking period. This numerical grade WILL be averaged with the grade your child earns for the second-marking period. If you do not have your OWN password (not your child's), please contact the LMGHS Parent Coordinator. When we meet this week, I will give you a print-out for grades and assignments your child completed this marking-period.

Schedule for Week of 21 May:
Per my directive on Thursday, 17 May, you are to read Chapter 6 of The Great Gatsby for Monday, 21 May-pages 96 to 111. You have ample time to engage in a "close" reading of this text. I suspect that "many" students are not reading the novel, but rather referring to a resource on-line that provides a summary/analysis based on the low quiz grades. PARENTS: Please take note of this-also be aware that on some of the quizzes I have actually provided the "correct" answers to the basic comprehension questions-all your child has to do is to select that one correct answer from the list!
Tuesday, 22 May: Chapter 6 Quiz: Regardless of the results, additional points will NOT be given! discussion of this chapter will take place today through Thursday.
Thursday, 24 May:In-class read and discussion of Chapter 7!

Schedule for Week of 6 February:
NOTE: We will discuss the writing of your research paper in the form of "mini-lessons" every day this week (with the exception of Tuesday).
A Special Note to Parents: I have provided several resources for your child (see below) in the preparation of this research paper assignment. Sadly, many students have not yet "visited" these resources. (I am able to ascertain the number of "visitors" when I open-up the "Settings" for each of the postings.) Please direct your child to these resources-they are "generic" and can be used for the writing of any research paper.
Monday, 6 February: We will read and discuss Scene Two of Streetcar... Be prepared for a Quick-Write and/or a "surprise" quiz.
Tuesday, 7 February: COURSE SELECTION DAY-This is your last opportunity to take those advanced-level classes during your last year of high school. Discuss this with your parents-you may take at least THREE Advanced Placement classes in Grade 12-this will certainly appeal to college admission officials.

The above links were provided to assist you with obtaining background information for this text. Realizing that some students often refer to study guides prior, during, and after reading a text, I am providing you with these resources at this time. Once we complete the reading of A Streetcar Named Desire, we will begin the reading and discussion of To Kill a Mockingbird.

The Research Process Begins...
Please Note: Prior to reading our next literary selection (Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird) AFTER A Streetcar Named Desire, you will engage in the process of RESEARCH. I have already included resources on this blog, but do not worry, we will literally take "baby steps" in the process of writing a research paper. However, you will begin researching your assigned topic beginning the week of 31 January! Also, although you may think that you will be working collaboratively with others on this project by reading what appears below-that is not the case! It is ONLY at the very end that you and others assigned to the GROUP will present your research. Once you open-up a link- you will discover that with-in each GROUP-there are specific research questions (all unrelated-to some degree) for each group member. This will become clearer as soon as we meet together during the week of 31 January.

ATTENTION "JUNIOR/SOPH!": WOW! What a performance Friday Night-I was sitting on the edge of my seat from the second you appeared on stage. I was thrilled to see so many of my students displaying their "awesome" talents-singing-acting-dancing...Thank you! Regardless of the "judges'" decision, you are the "winner" in my heart...in my heart you are the "winner"... (Name that rhetorical device)
